What a wood fireplace insert does
A wood fireplace insert is a sealed, EPA-certified firebox that fits inside the masonry fireplace you already have and turns it into a real heating appliance. An open fireplace is inefficient by design: it draws heated air out of the room and sends most of the fire’s warmth straight up the flue. An insert closes that opening off with a tight firebox and a glass door, burns each load of wood far more completely, and returns usable heat to the room instead of the chimney. For a lot of Central Massachusetts homes, that is the difference between a fireplace that just looks nice and one that actually helps heat the house through a New England winter, often while using less wood to do it.

Regency i3000R (the largest)
A large hybrid wood insert that turns an open, heat-losing fireplace into a clean, efficient heat source for a whole living area, with an edge-to-edge glass view of the fire.
Regency CI-2700 (large hybrid)
A large hybrid insert with Eco-Boost triple-burn technology and a wide view of the fire, sized to heat a big room. Up to 78,000 BTU.
Regency i1150 (the compact one)
A smaller, efficient insert for tighter fireplace openings and smaller rooms, or for zone heating. Up to 55,000 BTU.
How to choose a wood insert
- Size it to your space. Inserts are rated by BTU output and firebox size. A larger firebox and higher BTU heat a bigger area; a compact insert suits a smaller room or a fireplace that cannot take a large unit. We help match the model to your square footage.
- Look at efficiency and emissions. An EPA-certified insert burns cleaner and turns more of every log into heat. Higher-efficiency models, at 75 percent HHV and up, also qualify for the federal biomass tax credit.
- Understand the burn technology. Catalytic and hybrid inserts hold a long, clean, even burn and pull more heat from each load. Simpler non-catalytic inserts cost less and are easy to run. We can walk you through the trade-offs.
- Measure the fireplace first. Every insert has a minimum fireplace opening. Before you buy, we measure your firebox so you know the unit fits, and we flag anything that needs attention.
- Plan for the liner. A wood insert vents through a stainless steel liner run up your chimney, so the chimney’s condition matters as much as the insert itself. This is where buying from a chimney company pays off.

What is the difference between a wood insert and an open fireplace?

Should I get an insert or a freestanding wood stove?
If you already have a masonry fireplace and want to keep that look, an insert is usually the cleaner choice, since it fits inside the opening you have. A freestanding stove sits out in the room and needs floor and wall clearances. We install both and can help you decide.
Can any fireplace take a wood insert?
Most masonry fireplaces can, as long as the opening meets the model’s minimum size and the chimney is sound. We measure the firebox and inspect the chimney before you commit, so there are no surprises.

Yes. Every insert is installed by our own licensed, insured team, liner included. We do not hand the install off to someone else.
How much does a wood insert cost, and is financing available?
Total cost depends on the model you choose and the liner and chimney work your fireplace needs. Financing is available, and we give you a clear, itemized quote after we see your fireplace.
Do I need a new chimney liner?
Almost always, yes. A wood insert vents through a continuous stainless steel liner run up the chimney. We inspect the chimney and size the liner as part of the installation.
